Advocacy
Representing your interests & keeping you informed The Fort Erie Chamber endeavors to keep in touch with and respond to the issues that affect our ability to do business in this community. The Chamber works to engage all levels of government on issues that are important to our members. Your local Chamber is not alone in this advocacy. We are part of a network of other Chambers in Niagara, the Ontario Chamber of Commerce, and other affiliated associations. This network has gained recognition as a strong effective voice for business. If you have a concern or comment relating to any level of government or any issues that affect your business, please contact a member of our Government Relations Committee. Joe Barker 905-894-4014 Stephen Passero 905-871-9868 The OCC is issuing a media release today about one of the planks of our pre-budget submission – the Made in Canada policy. This item was approved a couple years ago at our AGM as a Made in Ontario policy but we have since learned that it must be a Made in Canada policy so that it doesn’t violate interprovincial trade barriers. The manufacturing survey which just wrapped up last week clearly supported this recommendation. We’re releasing this today in order to capitalize on the current discussions about transit expansion in the GTA. By encouraging the government to establish a target for domestic content, public transit expansions don’t just benefit select urban areas, but can potentially provide economic stimulation to other parts of the province through transportation component manufacturers.
